What is a hack?

A hack is a gathering of people who want to develop innovation in a very unique way. The innovation can come in the form of a new app, a new storytelling format or hardware that didn’t exist before. Acutally there are no boundaries as long as it is new and it works. The special thing is: participants don’t have weeks or months but only 48 hours to form their ideas into first prototypes. Groups will team up on the spot and work intensively on the next big thing!

Where is the hack?

The Radio Hack Europe will take place in the most digital hotel in Vienna. The Hotel Schani is known for its 24/7 co-working space, creative atmosphere, specially designed rooms and the great Wifi. The hotel is next to the central train station, tram lines and the metro. To sum it up, there could be no better place in Vienna for the Radio Hack Europe. Hackers get a special hack price for the room (see below).

What is the goal of Radio Hack Europe?

In short: to build the radio of the future! Each team will present a prototype of their idea for the future of radio at the end of the hack. The best prototypes will be presented on the main stage during Radiodays Europe. That way, you can pitch in front of Europes radio industry leaders, producers and suppliers, giving this international audience the latest innovation in the future of radio and audio – a classic win-win situation. If your idea works and is well received, this might even be the beginning of your own StartUp!

What’s in it for me?

You get to meet people from all over Europe who – just like you – have a deep passion for the future of radio and want to create ideas, discuss concepts and work on solutions. In 2017 we had 45 hackers from 11 countries. 48 hours of hacking will give you the opportunity to fully dive in and expand your ideas, pushing yourself, your radio station, even the whole industry!

How can I partner with Radio Hack Europe?

There are numerous ways for technological partners and interested companies to support and sponsor the hack. Besides classic sponsoring packages we offer the possibility of providing API’s, corporate applications/software or hardware to the hackers. What’s in it for you? Innovations, new ideas and the possibility to work with people who are developing the future of their station! For further information please contact sales@radiodayseurope.com

How can I participate?

Hack participants can register online via this registration link. Please note: a maximum of three  people can be admitted per company or organisation.

What costs may arise?

The registration fee for the event is € 50.00 + 20% Austrian VAT. A great variety of takeaways at the modern nearby central train station offer inexpensive and healthy food, and we will help feeding you with fruit, snacks, coffee, tea and drinks, so you can concentrate on hacking. Travel and hotel expenses cannot be covered, but there is an unbeatable price offer for hack participants on the rooms at the Hotel Schani where the hack will take place (however, hack participants are free to stay wherever they like, and commute to / from the hack venue). The Schani discount code will be stated in your hack registration confirmation mail. Every admitted hacker also receives a discount on the registration fee for the Radiodays Europe main event.

What’s the timetable for the Radio Hack Europe 2018?

The Hack starts on Friday evening (March 16th) with the idea pitches. Present your idea and form your hack team. As soon as all the groups have formed, the hack begins. Sunday will be the day to get your prototype ready and work on your pitch. You will pitch to the jury in the afternoon. The jury will then decide which team can present on the main stage of Radiodays Europe in front of the whole European radio scene – yeah that’s right!
