Radiodays Europe ‘Next Generation’ Youth Programme 2018

Radiodays Europe will be offered as a course to students from the Department of Journalism & Media Management at the FHWien University

  • Radiodays Europe is changing and expanding it’s youth programme ‘Next Gen’ for Vienna 2018 by inviting more young people than ever before to attend the conference with the help of their partners FHWien der WKW University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication
  • Radiodays Europe will be offered as a course to students from the Department of Journalism & Media Management, who will produce audio, video and written content about the 'Innovation, Tradition and Trends of a growing Radio & Audio-Market'
  • Students from the Media Department, as part of their degree course, will participate at the Radio Hack on 17-18 March and Radiodays Europe 18-20 March 2018

30 November 2017, Vienna, Austria: Radiodays Europe (RDE) is changing and expanding its Next Generation (Next Gen) youth programme in Vienna 2018. Following three successful years the Next Gen programme is changing to allow more young people to attend Radiodays Europe. This year RDE is working with the Department of Journalism & Media Management at the FHWien der WKW University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication, to bring a group of students to Vienna in March 2018. The students will attend the  Radio Hack and Radiodays Europe with the Austrian Lecturer Stefan Pollach producing audio, video, and written content as part of their degree course. This course will contribute to their scholastic marks for the 2017-2018 year.

Anders Held, Project Manager and Founding Partner of Radiodays Europe said, “We at Radiodays Europe felt that due to the success of the Next Gen youth programme we needed to change and extend this opportunity further. This year we are working with the FHWien der WKW University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication bringing a much larger group of young people to attend Radiodays Europe. The students are studying media and all have an interest in radio. We hope that giving them this opportunity will encourage them to expand this interest by seeing the world of radio from an international perspective – the innovation, the strategy and what the future holds. We are passionate about radio and want to share our passion with the next generation of radio enthusiasts. We also want to expand Next Gen so that more young people are able to attend our event and we thank our partner at FHWien for working with us on this project”.

The lecturer responsible for creating the Radiodays Europe course is Stefan Pollach. He spent the first part of his career in various editorial posts at FM4, the youth radio station at Austria’s public broadcaster ORF. From the late 1990s he adopted a true cross-media way of working, dividing his time equally between online media and radio within the corporation. An achievement at that time was to create and programme an award-winning early Web 2.0 platform for FM4, offering new Austrian music. Since 2008 he has been working as a communications specialist and advises on storytelling and digital media questions. As Project Manager, he was also responsible for the online presence of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna.

Stefan Pollach has been teaching at FHWien since 2013. He said, “We are very pleased to be offering this course to our students, it’s a fantastic opportunity to attend and cover such an important event for the radio industry. The exposure they will receive will be a key-learning tool along with practical experience that will be invaluable to their future careers. We hope too that of the students attending there will be some future stars of radio among them either behind the scenes or the talent on air”.

Radiodays Europe 2018 is supported by two local partners the public broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), and the Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Austria (VÖP). The conference and events run for three days with a number of workshops, networking events and the exhibition opening on Sunday 19 March with the main two conference days running on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 March 2018.
