Giel Beelen is a Dutch radio-dj and program host on radio and TV. 
 

He works for the VARA Broadcasting Association, which is one of the nearly 20 associations broadcasting via the Dutch public broadcaster NPO.  On their youth channel 3FM Giel Beelen presents the morning show GIEL on weekdays from 6 to 10.  He is also on radio with NACHTEGIEL on Saturday mornings 1 to 4, in addition to hosting the TV participation show FACTOR GIEL and the TV talkshow GIELTV.  Giel Beelen is a central person in the Dutch media environment.
 

Giel Beelen was one of the three DJs who made the first "Serious Request"-show in 2004.  In the week before Christmas they sent from a glass box 24 hours a day in 5 days without eating anything as a token of  solidarity with the victims in Darfur  - and played listeners requests for the benefit of the Red Cross.  Later Giel Beelen has been on the annual "Serious request"-shows as radio DJ in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.   The "Serious Request"-format has later been picked up by a number of countries - among them Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Kenya.
